FUND RAISING EVENTS & NEWS 2008

NEW CHAIRMAN

We said farewell to our outgoing Chairman, Michael Pickles, at the AGM, held on Thursday, 17th July 2008. He was presented with a unique photograph of Gainsborough House, taken by Allen Crust from the roof of the Old Hall, by the new Chairman, Mr Paul Howitt-Cowan.

We all wish Mike well for his future plans and welcome Paul to the Chairmanship of our much-loved local community centre. Members of the Board of Directors are all volunteers and the work and commitment they give to our charity is immeasurable, so thank you to them all.

The photograph shows Paul Howitt-Cowan holding the picture he is to present to Michael Pickles.

THANK YOU TO HEMSWELL CLIFF PRIMARY SCHOOL!

Members of Gainsborough House clubs had a lovely surprise last week when Mrs Beverly Riddle of Hemswell Cliff Primary School brought food items that had been donated by the children and staff of her school at their Harvest Festival to share amongst club members at Gainsborough House.

The Chairman, Mr Paul Howitt-Cowan said:
“We are very touch by this kind and thoughtful gesture from everyone at Hemswell Cliff School and look forward to next year when some of the pupils hope to visit Gainsborough House themselves.”

To show our appreciation we are asking people who visit Gainsborough House to save supermarket vouchers which we will then donate to Hemswell Cliff school. They are collecting Tesco vouchers for computers and Morrison vouchers so if you have any to spare please think of dropping them off at Gainsborough House office.

OLD GAINSBOROUGH - SLIDESHOW AND TALK

Thelma Childs of local history group, The Delvers, gave a Talk and Slide Show to a packed house on Thursday 27th November. All profits went to Gainsborough House Community Centre and £276 was made in total. Mrs Childs very kindly took no fee herself, which was a generous gesture.

The talk centred on the old market place and then spread to surrounding streets and evoked many memories of the picturesque old town that was Gainsborough years ago.

The event was so successful that Mrs Childs hopes to do another evening on Old Gainsborough for us in the spring of 2009.
