| CHRISTMAS DAY 2009 |
|
CHRISTMAS DAY 2009 Gainsborough Christmas Day Lunch Committee once
again served a free, traditional turkey dinner to fifty people who
would otherwise have spent Christmas Day alone. The Mayor of Gainsborough,
Coun Raoul Hesse- Phillipson and the chairman of WLDC Coun Jessie
Milne were guests of honour at this event, now in its 34th year.
Chairman Michael Wragg praised all the local organisations and
volunteers who had worked so hard for weeks in advance and on the
day itself to provide a day to remember for everyone. Without their
financial generosity and time this event could not take place.

| FUTURE OF AGE CONCERN DAY
CENTRE PROVISION |
The three Age Concern Day Centres held at Gainsborough House
[ Wednesday to Friday] which are presently funded by Lincolnshire
County Council [ transport and venue costs] were due to cease
on September 30 2009, however they are to extend until the 30
March 2010.
The future of these centres in West Lindsey from April 1 2010
[7 in total] are being explored and Age Concern & Gainsborough
House are in serious discussions to map a way forward. The criteria
for Personalised Budgets to fund extra curricular activities will
be so rigorous [and is subject to a means test], that only a few
will qualify, estimates give a quarter of present people attending
Day Centres will be ok.
There is deep concern and anxiety for the many people who will
be unable to obtain help towards attending Day Centres, which
were first established at Gainsborough House in 1967. Zena's Top
Nosh provides an excellent hot lunch [two course meal priced £3.50p]
at Gainsborough House, which helps make the day more of a social
occasion. The bottom line seems to be, that there will be a small
pot of money for funding a small number of Day Centres in Lincolnshire
however, the money will not allow the present structure to continue,
therefore Day Centre provision will have to be self financing.

| MARY AT THE PALACE |
|
Mrs Mary Fish was one of the Queen's guests at a Buckingham Palace
Garden Party held in July. Despite the inclement weather, Mary enjoyed
the occasion and felt privileged to be honoured in this way for
her voluntary work, in particular to Gainsborough House.

| FISH NIGHT AT GAINSBOROUGH
HOUSE |
|
On Wednesday 20 of July, Zena's Top Nosh opened up Gainsborough
House for a Fish Night which was well patronised making after expenses,
£120 for the Community Centre.
Zena's Top Nosh would like to hold similar events to raise much
needed funds for Gainsborough House in appreciation for having the
facilities to operate a thriving business in Gainsborough House.
Patrons for £5 received fish & chips, with mushy or garden peas,
bread and butter with a pot of tea. Volunteers were on hand to help
and everyone was both delighted with the fare and the buzz on the
night. Watch out for Zena's next event, we hear that she is planning
a Carvery!
